ABOUT OUR CHURCH 

      The Romanian Orthodox Parish of the Holy Martyrs of Brâncoveni was established under the canonical jurisdiction of the Romanian Orthodox Episcopate of Australia and New Zealand, on August 15, 2008, for pastoral-missionary reasons, for the Romanian Orthodox faithful in the SW of Sydney.

     According to the provisions of the Statute for the organization and functioning of the Romanian Orthodox Episcopate of Australia and New Zealand, the Episcopal Decision with No. 21/2008 for the establishment of the parish.

     On April 20, 2009, the Parish was recognized by the State of New South Wales authorities, issuing the Certificate of Incorporation as an Association, according to the Act. 1984 under the name: The Romanian Orthodox Church Sfintii Martiri Brancoveni Sydney Inc. The Parish General Assembly adopted the Statute for the organization and functioning of the Parish of the Holy Martyrs Brâncoveni under the canonical authority of the Romanian Orthodox Episcopate of Australia and New Zealand.

    At first the parish operated in rented places of worship. In 2014 - The commemorative year of the Holy Martyrs Brâncoveni, celebrated in the Romanian Patriarchate, His Beatitude Father Daniel, Patriarch of the Romanian Orthodox Church donated the icon with a fragment of the relics of the Holy Voivode Martyr Constantin Brâncoveanu, which is placed in veneration for those who pray in faith for the help of the Holy Martyrs Brâncoveni.

    In 2015, the Anglican Diocese of Sydney put a property up for sale, which had a church and a hall, used as a Social Center; the Romanian Orthodox community has served in this church as a tenant since 2015, during which time negotiations for its purchase took place.

   The Romanian Orthodox Episcopate of Australia and New Zealand, after many negotiations, with a local financial loan and financial aid from the State Secretariat for Religions, Romania, in July 2017 bought the property of 1018 m2, located at: 82 Canterbury Rd., Glenfield, NSW, 2167, Australia. The property has a brick church that serves as a place of prayer and a humble Pastoral-Missionary Center, used for the holidays of the Romanian Orthodox community or for national and cultural events.

    The construction of the church was done after 1920, being given to the Anglican cult in 1930. After the acquisition of the property, the Romanian Orthodox Episcopate of Australia and New Zealand endowed the church with objects of worship, which were brought from Romania: Holy Mass of oak, carved iconostasis for royal icons, pew for singers, hierarchical chair, vestments, icons and cult books.

    After the purchase of the property, between July 2017 and July 2018, repair works were done on the roof of the church, the pipes for collecting water were replaced, the new electrical installation was installed, the air conditioning units were bought and installed, the foundation of the church on which the new floor was fixed, was restored. The church was painted and adorned with carpets, benches for believers and chandeliers. Also, renovation and arrangement works were done at the Pastoral-Missionary Center.

    On August 12, 2018, the consecration of the church under the protection of the Holy Martyrs Brâncoveni in Sydney, Australia, was celebrated with the prayers of His Eminence Bishop Mihail surrounded by the council of Romanian priests in Sydney, who performed the service of consecration of the Holy Table and Mir. On this occasion, the place of worship received the second feast day - The Annunciation, being entrusted to the prayers of the Blessed Virgin Mary, the patron saint of Christians.

    The celebration was attended by Romanian faithful for NSW and representatives of the diplomatic corps at the Consulate General of Romania in Sydney.
